Our community of caring is shaped by the unique experiences, perspectives, interests and talents of more than 200 people who are sometimes challenged, but never defined by disability. Together, we enrich life on Aquidneck Island and throughout Rhode Island’s East Bay.

Maher Center participants volunteer at dozens of other nonprofit organizations, work at businesses and organizations throughout our community, and engage in an array of creative pursuits and recreational and social activities.

Our participants are supported by an interdisciplinary team of Maher Center professionals, by family and friends, and by our amazing, extended Maher Center family of generous donors and volunteers.

Together, we live life to its fullest.

  • Community Services

Shaped by our participants’ interests, The Maher Center community creates a continuously evolving program of activities and experiences. Maher Center people volunteer for other nonprofit organizations, enjoy an array of creative and recreational activities, learn new skills, and work in community-based settings. We provide transportation and other services - supporting them every step of the way.

  • Residential Services

The Maher Center-operated residences - including two residences dedicated to the care of people with complex medical needs - provide safe, supportive environments for our residential participants. We deliver 24/7 care, social services, transportation, and a vibrant menu of activities - all tailored to the needs and interests of our residents and their families.

  • Employment Services

Supported by job coaches, drivers, and other professionals, Maher Center people are working in grocery stores, retail establishments, and other community-based businesses and organizations on Aquidneck Island and throughout the East Bay. Every day, our participants and their employers build a more inclusive workforce - and a stronger, more diverse business community - together.
